The Moxbournienna Sonatas - Sonata 2- is my 14th original album, and is a set of improvisations for violin and piano as a loving collaboration between two old friends, Rupert Guenther and Melvyn Cann, on a wintery day in Melbourne at the ABC Iwaki Auditorium in Southbank in 2007, having been commissioned by ABC Classic FM. With their respective backgrounds in classical music in Melbourne, Vienna and Oxford spanning decades of musical artistry, the artists recorded these monumental sonatas in one take, no overdubs or re-takes, in a richly emotional dialogue between the two musicians. The name Moxbournienna is a composite of the names of the three cities. They hope that these works can be an example of classical musicians making their own pathways as deeply humanistic original artists through the art of the music itself being an extended improvisation, spanning the experiences of lifetimes of the soul’s experience
